Teachers vs Year 6's Netball

Move over Irene Van Dyke! Mr Van has a GS bib on and he's not taking any prisoners!
On Thursday 24th Sep the teachers bravely faced some of our best Year 6 netball players on the court at lunchtime for an end of term showdown. It was a real battle to the bitter end with both teams doing some extremely tactical defending and attacking. Above the deafening roar of most Pakuranga Heights students the teachers valiantly moved their less than agile frames around the court as the flexible and energetic students barely got a sweat up. It's amazing what 20 years will do to a body!
Fun was had by all and their was only a 2 point difference in the final score to the teachers... just.
Well done to all Year 6 students who played, and all the other students who turned out to cheer them and support them.
Wishing all students a safe and fun holiday break from the Senior team.

Mr Madden's Visit

On Wednesday 26th August the students of Rooms 12, 15 and 16 were very lucky to have Bruce Madden come and talk to us for our inquiry topic. We are researching 'Careers' and the pathways and skills that are needed for lots of different careers. Mr Madden is an illustrator who has published two children's books. He read us his latest book called "Jack" and showed us lots of his artwork. He explained to us how he became an illustrator and what skills are needed and tools are used.
We were able to ask Mr Madden lots of questions about his career which helped us with our inquiry. After we asked him questions he taught us how to draw our own "Jack" bird and then he judged the styles that he thought were most creative. Three people were chosen as the winners and they each got a prize. We all really enjoyed the visit and learned a lot from Mr Madden.
